Before you sign
- Confirm your status of residence, job category and workplace.
- Read the wage, working hours, overtime, holidays and deduction details.
- Ask who pays recruitment, travel, housing and training costs.
- Keep copies of every contract and explanation.
- Never hand over your passport or residence card for safekeeping.
After arrival
- Complete resident registration and social insurance procedures.
- Receive a workplace and safety orientation.
- Confirm how wages and deductions appear on the payslip.
- Save the contact details of your employer and support organization.
- Ask questions in a language you understand.
Changing jobs and seeking help
Rules differ between ESD and SSW. A workplace change may be possible when legal conditions are met; SSW workers generally need a new eligible employer and residence procedure. Do not disappear from work without advice, because it can make support and immigration procedures harder.
If you face violence, threats, unpaid wages, passport confiscation or unsafe work, contact the Labor Standards Inspection Office, Immigration Services Agency consultation services, local government or police in an emergency.
